My Role
Solo Designer & Product Owner
Fantasy Links is where my two passions collide, golf and design. A personal project built for my friends that grew into a fully designed product, complete with its own brand, design system, and live data integrations. What started on a Google Sheet is now a real app.
The Brief
My friends and I have been running a golf fantasy competition for years all managed manually through Google Sheets. It worked, but barely. Tracking scores was a pain, the experience was clunky, and it completely lacked the social and competitive energy that makes fantasy sports fun. I wanted to fix that. The goal was to build a simplified, social, and user-friendly fantasy golf platform something that stripped away the complexity of traditional sports fantasy apps, which can be convoluted and intimidating, and replaced it with something anyone could pick up and enjoy. It also had to look and feel like a real product, not a side project.
My Approach
I owned every part of the design UX, UI, branding, and design system. I started with the user experience, mapping out the flows that had caused the most friction in our Google Sheet setup: picking teams, tracking live scores, seeing standings. Each flow was simplified to its core. The brand came next building an identity that felt premium and sport-forward without being generic. The design system followed, giving every screen a consistent, scalable foundation.
With the design locked, I used AI and Claude Code to build the product bridging the gap between design and development in a way that wouldn't have been possible as a solo designer even a few years ago. Third-party golf APIs were integrated to pull live scoring data automatically, replacing the manual Google Sheets updates entirely. The result is a live, functioning app that my friends and I actually use and one I intend to release publicly.
Outcome
A live fantasy golf app designed, branded, and built solo. From Google Sheets to a real product.
